1934 Adventure Travel from crossing of South America from the Andean Mountains to the mouth of the Amazon River at Belem du Para on the Atlantic Ocean

Arthur J. Post - a living legend
Author of "Huck Finning the Amazon" In 1934, Art Post and 2 other explorers made a continental crossing of South America from the Andean Mountains to the mouth of the Amazon River at Belem du Para on the Atlantic Ocean.
I am presenting this on behalf of a new found family friend, Arthur J. Post, 95 years old. Art wrote an adventure book called "Huck Finning the Amazon".

Art Post is the only living American who possibly was the first to accomplish this:
In 1934, Art Post and 2 other explorers made a continental crossing of South America from the Andean Mountains to the mouth of the Amazon River at Belem du Para on the Atlantic Ocean.
Arthur Post and his two fellow explorers, Edward Kellog Strong III, and Gain Allen John (both now deceased) traveled in canoes with the Machienga Indians of Peru in 1934.

Currently, the Travel Channel is featuring the Machienga Indians in the series " Mark and Olly: Living With the Machienga". Arthur Post, with the help of the Machienga Indians, did this seventy five years earlier and is alive today to tell his story.
Arthur J. Post's story is unbelievable - along the way in his trip, he actually visited our grandparents' ranch in Peru. It was wonderful to meet Art Post, and to read his book.

Art is sharp as a tack, alive and well, and very interested in getting the word out about his book. He is hoping to find a publisher in the United States. His mind is very sharp for someone of his advanced years. Art does not travel out of Mexico anymore due to his age. He has copies of his book and would like to find a new publisher and editor or even a filmmaker who would be interested in creating a documentary about his adventure down the Amazon.

If this project is of interest to you, writers and film makers please email us and we will call Art, he does not have email.
Thank you for anything you can do for this wonderful person.

Art Post and his companions in 1934 with the Machigenga

If you are watching the Travel Channel's Mark and Olly: Living With the Machigenga, then you probably would like the book "Huck Finning the Amazon" by Arthur J. Post. Art is the last survivor of the group.

Traveling the Amazon’s entire length had never been done before by even the most experienced explorers let alone three inexperienced, naïve eighteen year olds, their friends, teachers, neighbors, parents and everyone else admonished.

These three greenhorn kids – Eddie, Gain and Art, responded by doing it. They hiked, canoed, rafted, and boated the greatest river in the world from its source high in the Andes Mountains to its terminus at Belem do Para on the Atlantic Ocean. Not the first white men to do so, but the first men ever to do so!

He is now 92 years old and living in central Mexico. Hi name is Art Post and he wrote a book about this great adventure called "Huck Finning the Amazon". You should meet this guy!

Huck Finning the Amazon by Arthur Post is their extraordinarily epic story: beyond any doubt, the greatest adventure achievement of the twentieth century.

Map of 1934 Canoe Trip of Arthur Post as described in his book, "Huck Finning the Amazon"

The portion of the canoe trip which Arthur Post and his two companions made on their trip from the Andes Mountains to the Amazon in 1934.
Traveling the Amazon’s entire length had never been done before by even the most experienced explorers let alone three inexperienced, naïve eighteen year olds, their friends, teachers, neighbors, parents and everyone else admonished.

Not the first white men to do so, but the first men ever to do so!

The odds against their successful completion of this wild-eyed, pipe dream were enormous – at least a million to one (or in this case a million to three).

Huck Finning the Amazon by Arthur Post is their extraordinarily epic story: beyond any doubt, the greatest adventure achievement of the twentieth century.

Three eighteen year olds just graduated from high-school...sitting in front of their campfire on the Klamath River in Northern California discussing what would be the trip of a lifetime. After many hours of debate, they came to agreement: explore the unknown reaches of the headwaters of the Amazon and then traverse the river to its mouth on the Atlantic Ocean. -- Huck Finning the Amazon by Arthur Post is their extraordinarily epic story: beyond any doubt, the greatest adventure achievement of the twentieth century. -- The author, Art Post having found additional photos, maps, and stories from his original notes rewrote part of the First Edition of Huck Finning the Amazon to include this material which lay hidden in boxes and erased from his memory until rediscovered 70 years after their disappearance. The result is Huck Finning the Amazon Expanded Edition."-from the forward.

Arthur J. Post with his wife Mary Ellen Post and a copy of his book "Huck Finning the Amazon" this week in central Mexico. Art Post and 2 other explorers were some of the first men to make a continental crossing of South America from the high Andean Mountains to the mouth of the Amazon River at Belem du Para on the Atlantic Ocean. We recently visited Arthur Post in Mexico - he is alive and well. Art Post has an amazing gift for recalling dates, names, places and events.
